How to Find a Gym Day Pass While Travelling: A Step-by-Step Guide

Bởi Daily Sweat8 phút đọc

You’ve found your accommodation, worked out where to get breakfast, and unpacked your trainers. Now you just need somewhere to work out.

Searching for a gym is easy. Finding one that lets you walk in, pay for a single session, and use the equipment you need can take a little more effort.

The simplest approach is to shortlist a few convenient gyms, confirm their day-pass price and entry rules, then choose the one that fits your plans. Here’s how to do it without spending your morning researching.

1. Start with where you’ll actually be

Before looking at gyms, decide when and where a workout would fit into your day.

If you like training before breakfast, search near your accommodation. If you’re working remotely, somewhere between your apartment and coworking space might be more convenient.

Pick a realistic travel limit, perhaps a 15-minute walk, and a couple of essentials:

  • Free weights or a squat rack for your usual strength session.
  • A shower if you’re heading straight out afterwards.
  • A pool, a particular machine, or space to stretch.
  • Opening hours that fit your schedule.

Check the walking route, rather than judging distance from a map pin. A gym across a river or major road might be less convenient than it looks.

And before paying for anything, check whether your accommodation or existing gym membership already gives you suitable access.

A search for “gym near me” tells you what’s nearby. It doesn’t necessarily tell you where you can train without a membership.

Try searches that describe what you need:

  • “Gym day pass in Lisbon”
  • “Drop-in gym near Shinjuku”
  • “One-week gym pass in Bangkok”

If results are limited, try “single visit”, “pay as you go”, or the local-language equivalent.

You can also search your destination on Daily Sweat to find gyms with day-pass information, then use the map to check which ones fit your route. If you already know a chain operates there, its chain page shows every branch with a confirmed pass.

Shortlist two or three options. Having a backup saves you from starting again if your first choice has changed its visitor policy.

3. Confirm that the pass is available to travellers

Once you have a shortlist, check the official website for the exact branch you plan to visit. Look for a day-pass page, pricing section, FAQ, or booking screen.

Be careful with offers labelled “free trial” or “guest pass”. They may have conditions that make them unsuitable for a short visit.

For example, Anytime Fitness’s free-trial terms limit the offer to new customers who live or work nearby. Its page notes that non-residents may instead pay a drop-in fee. (See what that means branch by branch on our Anytime Fitness day pass page.)

For any gym, establish three things:

  • Can a visitor buy access without becoming a long-term member?
  • Can you train independently, or does the pass require a member to accompany you?
  • Are you booking gym-floor access, a class, or a tour?

Recent reviews can provide useful clues. If someone mentions buying a pass, check when they visited and whether they mean the same location.

4. Compare the total cost, and what “a day” means

Check the price in local currency, along with any extra charges for registration, a towel, a locker, or facilities you want to use.

If you’ll train several times, compare individual visits with a weekly pass.

Worked example. Three visits at €12 would cost €36. A €30 weekly pass could save you money if it covers the days you’ll actually be there. That’s an illustration, not a typical price: the calculation depends on the gym and your plans.

Also check when the pass starts and expires. “Day pass” doesn’t always mean 24 hours:

That matters if you want to buy a pass late in the evening or leave for lunch and return afterwards.

For a multi-day pass, check whether the days must be consecutive. For a short membership, check whether it ends automatically or renews.

5. Work out how you’ll get through the door

Before leaving, establish whether you need to:

  • Pay at reception.
  • Buy online and receive a PIN or QR code.
  • Download an app and complete registration.
  • Book a class or arrange your first visit.

A gym being open 24 hours doesn’t necessarily mean a visitor can arrive at any time. For example, Anytime Fitness South Africa’s FAQ says its one-off sessions are available during staffed hours.

If the website leaves questions unanswered, send a short message:

Hi! I’m visiting [city] and would like to train at your [branch name] gym on [day] around [time]. Do you offer a paid day pass for visitors? What is the total price, how do I buy it, and do I need to bring ID or anything else?

Add a question about a shower, pool, or specific piece of equipment if it matters to you.

Translate the message if needed. Short, direct questions are easier to understand than a long explanation of your trip.

6. Check the equipment and pack what you need

Before committing, look through recent photos of the training floor. Check for the equipment you’ll actually use: a room full of cardio machines might be fine for one workout and unsuitable for another.

If a facility matters, confirm that your pass includes it. A pool appearing in a photo doesn’t tell you whether day-pass visitors can use it.

Then pack for that gym’s requirements:

  • Training clothes and suitable shoes.
  • A water bottle and towel.
  • Identification, if requested.
  • A padlock or locker coin, if needed.
  • Your booking confirmation and entry instructions.

Check whether clean indoor shoes are required; it is the norm in Japan and common elsewhere. If entry depends on an app, log in before you leave your accommodation and make sure you can access the pass on your phone.

Save the gym’s address and allow a few extra minutes for your first visit.

7. Keep the useful details for next time

After training, note what you paid and how you got in. If you’re staying longer, you now have a gym you can return to without repeating the research.

If you found it through Daily Sweat, confirm the listing or suggest a correction when something has changed. A current price, a clearer entrance instruction, or a note about reception hours can save the next traveller a wasted journey.

Câu hỏi thường gặp

Can I use a gym without a membership while travelling?

Yes, where the gym offers a paid day pass, single-session entry, or another short-term option. Check the specific branch before visiting; a free trial or member's guest pass may have different eligibility rules.

Should I book a gym day pass in advance?

Follow the gym's entry instructions. Some sell passes at reception, while others require an online purchase, app registration, or a booked session. Sorting out entry before you set off is especially useful for an early-morning or late-evening workout.

What if I can't find a day-pass price?

Check the gym's booking page or contact the branch directly. An unpublished price doesn't automatically mean visitors aren't welcome, but it's better to get an answer before travelling there.

Is a weekly gym pass better value?

It depends on how many times you'll train. Multiply the single-visit price by your planned visits, then compare it with the weekly price. Check the validity dates and included facilities before choosing.
